Zoe Kravitz Cast as Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman

After months of only having Robert Pattinson on the cast list, Matt Reeves’ The Batman has finally added someone new to the fray. Just in, the movie has cast its Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman.

As per Variety, Zoe Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Mad Max: Fury Road) has landed the role of Gotham’s  top cat burglar and on and off romantic interest of the Caped Crusader. Kravitz has apparently beaten out other actresses like Zazie Beetz and Ana de Armas who had also tested for the role.

We don’t have any specific details on Catwoman’s role in the film, but since she’s the second person to join the cast officially, I imagine it’s going to be a significant part. The only other sure member of the cast seems to be Jeffrey Wright who is said to be playing Commissioner Gordon. We haven’t had any updates on John David Washington playing Harvey Dent (Two-Face) or Jonah Hill signing up for the role of the Riddler.

Though there hasn’t been any official confirmation, it looks like The Batman will be taking place in a completely different timeline in the DCEU. There were hopes that Pattinson could be playing a younger Batfleck, but with Wright taking on the role of Jim Gordon (previously played by J.K. Simmons), it’s likely that they want to start with a clean slate.

With the DCEU pushing forward with original Justice League members like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash, I’m kind of hoping we can get a return of Batfleck somewhere down the line. Maybe this new timeline can also have Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in full villain mode, but I think that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

The Batman is set for a release on June 25, 2021.
