The third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland is currently undergoing production, and while nothing has been officially confirmed, rumors have been going around that the film will bring back actors from previous Spider-Man franchises like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. One other name going around is Alfred Molina (Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2), and it looks like star Zendaya has confirmed that he’s working on the next Spider-Man film.
Talking to actress Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) during a segment of Variety’s Actors on Actors, Zendaya pretty much confirmed that she has worked with Molina. When Mulligan mentions working with Molina (while working on PYM), Zendaya adds, “…Who is so nice, by the way.”

While it doesn’t really give anything away when it comes to the film, from that we can assume that MJ will share some scenes with Otto Octavius a.k.a. Doc Ock one way or another. Seeing that Doc Ock’s arc was pretty much started and ended in Spider-Man 2, it would be interesting to see how he fits into this new narrative. Is he the exact same character from Sam Raimi’s movie, or is this another case of a rebooted character like J.K. Simmons and J.J. Jameson?
For now, all we can really do is wait. With Spider-Man 3 set to come out in the end of the year, it’s very likely we’ll get our teaser at the halfway point of 2021. Best guess is it will release alongside Venom: Let There Be Carnage which is set to come out this June.
Spider-Man 3 is set to hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2021.
