Zack Snyder on The Batman, ‘It’s the Kind of Movie I Want to See’

With director Zack Snyder frequently referring to Ben Affleck as ‘my Batman’ you would think that he would have something to say about the new take of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. What’s great is, Snyder looks to be onboard, and it open to this upcoming version of the Dark Knight.

Talking to the Reel in Motion podcast, Snyder says:

“I dunno what the rating is going to be but I felt the same way (watching Batman beat the goon). I was like what the…I actually just texted Matt (Reeves) after and I was like, ‘What the f***! This is cool!… I loved it. I thought it was so cool. I thought it was like the right direction and everything about it. As far as just a fan of a movie, it’s the kind of movie I want to see, so I felt like (two thumbs up). Yes, please.”

Since this is Hollywood, you can expect that he’s kind of obligated not to trash the film. After all, WB is giving him one more chance to finish his cut of Justice League. Then again, based on what all of Snyder’s collaborators say about him, Snyder seems to be a guy who has respect for the creative process, and if a lot of fans already love this new Batman, I think Snyder would be onboard as well.

Personally, we don’t know what’s in store for the DCEU moving forward. A lot of people are hoping that Snyder’s plans for Justice League continue should the Snyder Cut succeed on HBO. Others think this will be his last chance directing something in the franchise. Best case scenario, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is a hit, and we continue getting stories based on the characters in the timeline—including Ben Affleck’s Batman.

For now, it’s still too early to say. We’ll just have to wait and see how each of the films are received. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set to hit HBO Max early 2021 and The Batman hits theaters Oct. 1, 2021.
