Wonder Woman began filming in Italy a few weeks ago, which is the location being used to create and capture the island of the Amazons, Themyscira. We have already seen set photos of Diana’s first meeting with Steve Trevor after his plane crash. Additionally, those images showed off the Amazons on horseback as they get in what appeared to be a battle formation.
Footage has now emerged from the set showing the shoot on location in Matera, Italy. The video, featured below, is fairly short, but it does give us another look at the amazing costumes and what we can expect to see of the island.
Themyscira, or Paradise Island as it is also commonly referred to, is the home of the Amazons. On this isolated island of women warriors, they know no racism, sexism, and homosexuality is acceptable. They generally live in absolute peace and we’ll see this part of their lifestyle played out on the big screen. It’s presumed that at the start of the film, Diana will receive combat and leadership training from her mother, Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), and aunts General Antiope (Robin Wright) and Lieutenant Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli).
Wonder Woman hits theaters next summer on June 2, 2017.
