Wednesday Season 2 Casts Westworld’s Thandiwe Newton

She may not be coming back for another season of Westworld, but Thandiwe Newton has found herself cast in another mega franchise for Netflix.

According to Variety, Newton has been cast in the second season of Wednesday, the Addams Family spinoff starring Jenna Ortega. No details have been revealed about who Newton would be playing, but we do know that she is joining the cast alongside Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) who is also coming onboard this season.

With the death of Gwendoline Christie’s character Larissa Weems by the end of the first season, it’s possible that either Newton or Buscemi could be playing a character who will be taking over as the head of Nevermore Academy. Though I think that Buscemi could definitely play the principal of goth Hogwarts, it’s likely he could be introduced as another member of the Addams Family—Cousin Itt; he has a distinctive enough voice, and we should expect to see more of Wednesday’s quirky family as the show goes on.

Going back to Newton though, the series is going to need someone to fill in the imposing hole that Christie has left in the series, and I can see Newton very much filling it. She was such a powerhouse performer in Westworld, and Wednesday may not be as cerebral, but there’s definitely room for Newton to show off her chops.

No release date has been announced for the second season of Wednesday, but you can catch the first season now on Netflix.
