The celebrated game designer, Hideo Kojima, and filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro participated in a D.I.C.E Summit keynote this evening moderated by Geoff Keighley. In the keynote the two discussed their long-time friendship, influences, individual creative habits, working together on P.T., and whether or they plan to work together again. The talk was a short one, though 45 minutes is average for this kind of event, the two creative minds certainly deserved a lengthier time slot. They provided fascinating insight and their friendship seeped through seamlessly as their rapport, despite the language barrier, flowed smoothly to listeners’ content.
Perhaps the best thing about the discussion was how happy Kojima-san appeared. He spoke of finally feeling “free” and being able to go on a new creative journey with his recently founded studio, Kojima Productions. Late last year, Kojima and Andrew House (President and Group CEO of SCE) announced a new partnership between Sony and Kojima Productions; a partnership that will net PlayStation 4 a console exclusive.

Because this was the game designer’s first major public appearance since his trouble with Metal Gear Solid publisher, Konami, ended last year, his apparent happiness was both expected and refreshing.
The full keynote is certainly worth a watch:
