J.K. Rowling may be riding the wave of Cancel Culture now, but Harry Potter remains to be one beloved franchise. Just in, Portkey Games has decided to release the first trailer for their open-world Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy.
Here’s the official description:
Experience a new story set at #Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. Make allies, battle Dark wizards and decide the fate of the wizarding world.
While the Wizarding World has established lore for the 90s and the early 20s, the game is going to be exploring the 1800s, so there’s still a lot of room for telling an independent story. In Hogwarts Legacy, you get to play the part of a student, choose your house, master potions, and shape the history of Hogwarts for the future.
The game looks to be filled with all the magical stuff people love about Harry Potter from the magic classes and flying brooms. There also looks to be some dark creatures that will be making appearances like Inferi and Dementors, and it’s likely there is also another ‘Death Eater’-like cult that players will have to go against (or join depending on how they want to play).
I can’t tell if I’m excited for the game yet, but hopefully we get a look at the gameplay soon. The lore of the Potter world has always been kind of flimsy, that’s why I prefer stories, but maybe Hogwarts Legacy is just the thing the franchise needs after the last Fantastic Beasts film.
Catch Hogwarts Legacy when it becomes available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, and PS5 sometime in 2021.
