The Walking Dead fans are still upset at the cliffhanging conclusion to season 6’s finale. You’re probably angry, too. Don’t feel bad about it though. You are not an entitled fan. Even those who are disinterested observers of The Walking Dead hoopla understand the rage.
And now you can rest easy knowing Greg Nicotero’s parents are just as angry with the decision as everyone else. So much so, they have chosen not to speak to him.
Nicotero is often lauded as the series’ best director. When a big episode is incoming, there’s a big chance he’s behind the camera. Typically, fans are pleased with his work. That was not so this past Sunday. Negan’s introduction was a much anticipated affair, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan played the part marvelously. He was inarguably the highlight of the episode, and some would say the season. However, the spotlight has been taken from his performance and instead placed on the cliffhanger he took part in.
The credits began rolling and there was an inaudible cry of frustration around the world as fans frantically questioned who the villain mercilessly slaughtered with Lucille, his trusty barbed wire bat. According to Greg Nicotero, his parents were not an exception. In talking with Entertainment Weekly, the director explained:
“It’s tremendously rewarding for me to be able to direct these episodes and be able to elicit emotion. My mom and dad called this morning and they were like, ‘We had nightmares last night. You gotta tell us who it is.’ My mom pulled the whole, ‘Gregory, this is your mother, you need to tell me who dies.’ I’m like, ‘Mom I’m not allowed to tell you that.’ So my mom and dad aren’t talking to me right now.”
See, fans aren’t the only bitter ones. Maybe he should explain it to them differently. Now to begin the long wait for all to be revealed in season 7.
