Sony is already working on a sequel for Venom, and though the film was a success, director Ruben Fleischer won’t be back to helm. Rumor has it that Andy Serkis (Mowgli) was being tapped to take over, and it looks like Tom Hardy himself had confirmed it via Instagram.

Hardy’s post has since been deleted, but you can always bet that someone online has already screen-capped it. In this particular situation, we got BossLogic:

As of now Sony has yet to announce anyone to be the director, but if anyone would know, I bet it would be Hardy. Whether he got too excited or Sony just asked him to take it down, surely we’ll get an official announcement soon.

Though Serkis is best known to modern audiences as a motion capture actor, he’s actually very active behind the scenes as well. He was the director of Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, and he also served as second unit director for the Hobbit trilogy.

When it comes to Venom, I think that Serkis may actually be able to do a good job. Personally, I think he could help in making the character look a lot more real. Don’t get me wrong, I thought the look and feel of Venom was one of the few things the movie got right, but I’m curious what Serkis would change should he be given the chance.

For now, no release date has been set for Venom 2, but if Sony has found someone to helm, I’m guessing we could get something around 2021.
