[UPDATED] Kathleen Kennedy is Stepping Down, but She’s Not Leaving Star Wars (Allegedly)

UPDATE: SWNN has updated and confirms that the rumors of Kennedy leaving in August have been debunked. Either way, this article should contextualize what Kennedy means by her ‘not retiring’ back in SW Celebration.

Here’s the original article:

It has been kind of a rollercoaster for Kathleen Kennedy stans this year as rumors had been swirling around a few months ago that she was stepping down from her role as Lucasfilm president; then she came out with saying that she was still going to be sticking around to run Star Wars indefinitely.

Now a new rumor from The InSneider (via Star Wars News Net) has come out that suggests that Kennedy is stepping down from her Lucasfilm presidency in August, as compared to previous rumors which suggested she could be stepping down by the end of the year or early 2026.

It’s odd that this news is coming out seeing that last weekend during Star Wars Celebration she said, “I’m not retiring. Yeah, I’m not going anywhere.” At this point, some are speculating that though she could be stepping down as president of Lucasfilm, she isn’t retired and will keep producing movies–several of which are still under the Star Wars banner.

Personally, I have not been a fan of how the Fandom Menace had turned Kathy Kennedy into a cartoon villain and saying that she and Disney had been the ones ‘ruining’ Star Wars and making it ‘woke’. It’s gotten so bad that I even started getting biased against Dave Filoni who everyone thinks should be taking over the job.

If anything, being president of Lucasfilm is said to not be for a creative, as a lot of it is just figuring out branding and a bunch of corporate stuff. What’s important is that Lucasfilm needs a president who understands the creatives and will give them a realistic space to work on their craft while at the same time also making sure that the business end of things keeps working.

You think FIloni or Favreau would like to get stuck doing that part of the job?

Personally, I’m still rooting for Kennedy, and if she should step down, I’m just hoping she does it on her terms.
