Who doesn’t love a paranormal sci-fi thriller? Sony Pictures have released a new trailer for their up-and-coming movie, Flatliners and it looks dead creepy. While the trailer starts out looking similar to Netflix‘s The OA, the film becomes something much darker. Also based on the 90s’ original, starring Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts, Flatliners sees medical students create near-death experiences to explore the afterlife. Check out the trailer, below:
Scary stuff, right? First of all, we see Ellen Page and the group discovering that they can become smarter after dying. As a result of this, the group keep pushing the limits. This is a sci-fi horror story though, so it’s not all rosy. As you’d expect, there is one huge downside to learning and seeing more about what happens after death. After beginning to see things, the group quickly discover that their past is coming back to haunt them.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In Flatliners, five medical students, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience – giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.
As well as the new cast, a face from the original is set to cameo. The Hollywood Reporter state that Kiefer Sutherland will be showing up in one of the scenes. Furthermore, Niels Arden Oplev, who helmed the original Swedish Girl in the Dragon Tattoo, directs. Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev and James Norton are all rising stars, just like Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts were in the original movie. With stunning visuals and an energetic trailer, can Flatliners give this year’s Alien: Covenant a run for its money?
Flatliners hits cinemas on September 29th.
