Back in 2021, news came out that Diablo Cody was working on a live-action take on the hit animated series Powerpuff Girls. Unfortunately, the series never got greenlit for a full season, and the show just got lost in obscurity.
What’s interesting is, a trailer for the cancelled series has leaked online, and it definitely delivers on its promise of aging up the Powerpuff Girls into more modern (and I mean modern) women. Check out Powerpuff starring Chloe Bennet, Dove Cameron, and Yana Perrault:

I have to admit, when the leaks first came out back in 2021, it did seem like the show as being too edgy for its own good; but after seeing the trailer, a lot of the elements make sense when you try and put it through a camp lens.
After all, this is from Diablo Cody, the same voice behind Jennifer’s Body and Lisa Frankenstein. I guess the camp didn’t really translate to the script that was leaked, but it definitely makes sense now looking at it.
Back when the series was getting reworked, The CW CEO Mark Pedowitz had said about the series:
“We believe in the cast and in [writers Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier] and [executive producer Greg Berlanti] and studio Warner Bros. In this case, the pilot didn’t work… Because we see enough elements in there, we wanted to give it another shot.”
With the trailer leaked, a lot of fans are already online saying that we dodged a bullet, but I am part of the camp that thinks the show should have been allowed to cook.
I would've watched all 8 seasons unfortunately https://t.co/w7zZpn67YF

Maybe with the leaked trailer, there could be some positive buzz, but for now, Powerpuff remains dead in the water.
