Thunderbolts* Director May Helm MCU’s X-Men Movie

Thunderbolts* was a huge win for Marvel Studios when it came out, and a lot of good things have been said about the movie. What’s interesting is the director Jake Schreier may be attached to one of the biggest projects after Secret Wars.

According to Deadline, Schreier is currently in early talks to direct the new X-Men movie. We don’t know much about where the film is at this point, but it has been rumored that after the Multiverse, Marvel Studios now wants to do a whole saga for mutants—and the new X-Men could pretty much set the tone.

Though I do love Schreier’s work on Beef and Kidding, I did think that Thunderbolts* was kind of tame as compared to the projects he’s delivered before. Plus, that movie kind of needed some more work on establishing the relationships between the characters—with Ghost and Taskmaster kind of losing a lot on the characterization department.

For X-Men, I always thought that the MCU should deliver something completely different from the Fox movies, like focusing on a group of outsider kids, and embracing all the messy relationships. Plus, I think they’ll have to hold out on Wolverine for at least one movie, seeing that Hugh Jackman might literally be playing him for another decade.

Though I’m excited to see what Schreier has to offer, Marvel’s recent track record of hiring and firing directors for the past Avengers movies has got me concerned. Hopefully they’ll be out of the nostalgia pit by 2027.

No release date has been set for X-Men, but fans think that Marvel is planning for a release post-Avengers: Secret Wars. Catch Thunderbolts* now in cinemas.
