The Sokovia Accords are Discussed in New Clip from Captain America 4

Harrison Ford may be making his MCU debut, but his character Thunderbolt Ross has been around for a while, making his last big impression in Civil War when he presented the Sokovia Accords that effectively disbanded the Avengers.

Now Ross is set to have a bigger role in Captain America: Brave New World, and a new clip has been dropped of him discussing the Sokovia Accords with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). Check this out:

“With all due respect sir, when you passed the Sokovia Accords, you tore the Avengers apart.”

For additional context, the Sokovia Accords were named after the fictional town of Sokovia, the place that Ultron turned into a makeshift asteroid that he planned to hurl down on Earth and trigger a mass extinction. Because of the mass casualties, the Accords were put into place so the Avengers would be controlled by the UN to stop them from intervening in national conflicts with no accountability.

There’s even a short scene of Ross trying to uphold the Accords in Infinity War, but seeing that ignoring them was what saved half the universe, it would make sense that he would have a change of heart.

With no other prospective Avengers teased in the film, it’s possible that Ross’ goal to have an Avengers that the US can control will lead up to the formation of the Thunderbolts. Then again, this is just speculation, but it would fit right into whatever Marvel is planning right now.

Watch out for Captain America: Brave New World when it premieres in theaters Feb. 14.
