The Social Network from 2010 was a dramatized account of Mark Zuckerberg’s rise to power, and is considered to be one of the best films of all time. With Zuckerberg apparently still making waves in the world today, it looks like Aaron Sorkin has decided he wants to keep telling the story of The Social Network.
According to Deadline, Sorkin is teaming up with Sony Pictures for The Social Network Part II. It won’t be a sequel in the traditional sense, but it is going to delve into the current state of social media—specifically the story behind Wall Street Journal’s The Facebook Files by Jeff Horowitz—which explored the inner workings of Facebook and how it eventually caused harm to the public that was using it.
Looking back, it is kind of fascinating how Facebook’s reputation has changed from back in 2010 to 15 years later. Now social media is the face of misinformation and propaganda, and figures like Zuckerberg and Elon Musk are facing major scrutiny for allowing the muddying of truth to become so mainstream.
I’ll admit, it is kind of a bummer that Fincher won’t be coming back to helm, but he’s going to be working on that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel that’s said to be written by Quentin Tarantino; plus, Sorkin himself has proven to be a capable director; and we know that his scripts are still going to be great.
The question is if Jesse Eisenberg would be willing to reprise the part of Zuckerberg for the film. I mean, they possibly can’t move forward without his pasty ass as the lead.
No release date has been set for The Social Network Part II.
