While Fox is still planning on ending The Kingsman storyline with Eggsy and Harry, director Matthew Vaughn is going to do a little segway with the prequel The King’s Man. The movie aims to tell the story of the beginning of the organization, and it follows an all new cast—but with the same kind of formula. Here’s the new action-packed trailer.
As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them. Discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency in The King’s Man.
As you can see, there’re a lot of story elements from the first film that have bled over to this prequel. We have the exceptional young man who is recruited by the agency; the older mentor who takes him in; we have the supporting characters who are also capable agents; and we have some kooky James Bond-type villains.
I guess the only difference between this franchise’s lead and Eggsy is that Eggsy is actually a juvenile rebel when we meet him. Harris Dickinson’s “Conrad” looks to be a soldier who signed up for the war, and his exceptional in his own way.
We don’t know how this film will hold up yet, but I have a feeling it will reveal some plot points relevant to the next Kingsman film. I’m not confirming anything though, it’s just my guess.
Catch The King’s Man when it comes out Feb. 14, 2020.
