Brian Henson is the son of Muppet legend Jim Henso. He’s helmed several Muppet-based projects including The Muppet Christmas Carol as well as Muppet Treasure Island. Later this year, we’ll be seeing the release of one of the more unique takes on the muppets, The Happytime Murders.

Check out the Red Band trailer:

Two detectives — one puppet, one human — are forced to work together to find a killer who is murdering the former cast of the beloved show “The Happytime Gang.”

Sure, people usually consider the muppets a kid-friendly franchise. However, Happytime Murders looks like it’ll follow Avenue Q.

It looks like the film’s going show us a murder crime mystery with muppets added in for fun. Just watching the trailer, I wonder how else Henson plans to put the genre over its head.

Of course, the film also has its notable stars. Besides Melissa McCarthy playing the lead human, we also have the likes of Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, and Elizabeth Banks included in the cast. Audience members may also remember Leslie David Baker as Stanley from The Office and Jimmy O. Yang as Jian Yang from Silicon Valley.

Catch The Happytime Murders when it hits cinemas Aug. 17.
