The Batman Delayed to Halloween 2021

Matt Reeves’ The Batman was set to be the summer blockbuster of 2021, but it looks like we’ll have to wait a little longer for Battinson’s debut as the Dark Knight.

According to The Wrap, The Batman has pushed its original release date of June 25, 2021 to Oct. 1, 2021—that’s a four-month delay.

While a lot of films that were coming out later in the year have opted to keep their release date, it would make sense for The Batman to make the delay, seeing as lockdown began in the middle of production. For some of the movies coming out later this year, like Denis Villenueve’s Dune, production had wrapped before the lockdowns started, and some post-production work can still take place remotely.

I don’t really know what this delay means for the film’s reception, but a Halloween release is kind of fitting for someone like Batman. We don’t really know what to expect with this film yet, but it has been said that it will be drawing influence from The Long Halloween; making sense for the new release window. Besides that, there’s word going around that the movie will be a lot closer to Batman playing the detective role, and who wouldn’t want a dark mystery thriller during Halloween season?

We don’t know when production can begin again, but fingers crossed lockdown will be gone by June. In the meantime, stay indoors, wash your hands, and don’t touch your face so much.

For now, The Batman is expected to come out on Oct. 1, 2021.
