The Batman Casts John Turturo as Carmine Falcone

It looks like one more major Batman villain is going to be in Matt Reeves’ new film. News had just dropped that John Turturo (Transformers, The Big Lebowski) has been cast in The Batman.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Turturo will be playing the part of mob boss Carmine Falcone. We don’t have any further details on the role, but I can expect that Turturo can play it both ways, either serious or funny. Counting that we already have “big” rogues like Riddler and Penguin, I’m not expecting Falcone to be a major player when it comes to the next movie.

Besides being a prominent villain in the comics, Falcone also made an appearance in Batman Begins played by Tom Wilkinson. If anything, Falcone in the film could be the boss of either Riddler or Penguin, and taking him out could be the film’s way of having the villain rise to power. Then again, Turturo is such solid casting that I would love to see him in future movies if we can.

For now, Turturo joins a cast which includes the likes of Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, and Colin Farrell. It’s likely more characters will be cast down the line, but Falcone is certainly one of the bigger names. With the timeline all muddled up, what are the odds they can bring back Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker to be this Batman’s main rival?

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is set to come out June 25, 2020.
