According to Bloodydisgusting.com, Children of the Corn is being filmed under the title of Runaway. Reportedly, the franchise’s tenth installment is currently in production in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and is set to finish shooting on April 2nd of this year. Bloody Disgusting’s Brad Miska also reports John Gulager as the film’s director, although Alex Lehman is listed as the director instead.
Miska writes the plot synopsis is as follows.
“Children of the Corn: Runaway follows a young pregnant woman who escapes a murderous child cult in a small Midwestern town (Gatlin, Nebraska?). She then spends the next decade living anonymously in an attempt to spare her son the horrors that she experienced as a child. She lands in the small Oklahoma town…but something is following her. Now, she must confront this evil or lose her child.”
Additionally, the film’s protagonist is named Ruth. A name that may be familiar to those who watched Donald P Borchers’ Children of the Corn 2009 TV movie/remake. It is a significant bit of information, especially since Runaway appears to be a direct sequel to the TV movie/remake, where Isaac’s girlfriend, who was played by Alexis Nikolas, was also named Ruth.
If this seems incredibly confusing, it’s because it is incredibly confusing. But keep in mind, the confusion is why we loved Children of the Corn to begin with.
