The CW is busy promoting four new seasons of comic-book TV. Their longest running DC based show, Arrow, is heading in to Season 5. This year Oliver Queen is without some of his most trusted vigilante pals. Both Diggle and Thea Queen aren’t joining him on the streets of Star City early on. In their place, Oliver is training up some new members of Team Arrow. Spoilers for Season 4 follow.
In a new teaser released by The CW, Oliver is busy training up the new recruits. The short video, titled “Meet the Team”, gives a quick introduction to, “Team Arrow 2.0”.
The most interesting part of the teaser shows off Artemis using the Canary Cry. In the TV universe, the Canary Cry comes from a sonic weapon, courtesy of The Flash’s Cisco Ramon. Evelyn Sharp stole it after Laurel Lance’s death last season, as she impersonated the Black Canary. Now using the Artemis mantle, it seems like Sharp hasn’t given up using the Canary’s main weapon.
Along side Artemis in the new Team Arrow are newcomers Ragman and Wild Dog. Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt has an expanded role in the new season, as he moves towards becoming Mr Terrific. The synopsis for the premiere episode suggests it takes something big for Oliver to be convinced to take on these raw heroes.
After Laurel’s death and the departures of both Diggle and Thea from Team Arrow, Oliver takes to the streets solo to protect Star City’s citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. Meanwhile, the flashbacks take us to Russia where Oliver faces off against the Bratva.
An interesting dynamic this season will be Green Arrow as the true team leader. Team Arrow has grown by adding experience, but now Oliver has a young line-up to lead. However, he has to make decisions without Diggle or Thea to rely on for advice, which is a brand new challenge for Star City’s new mayor.
Arrow returns for a fifth season on October 5.
