It’s been known for a while that Netflix was developing a show based on The Witcher, and just now they’ve announced who’s going to play the lead—it’s DCEU’s Superman, Henry Cavill.

Check out the official announcement:

https://twitter.com/seewhatsnext/status/1036984735854026755

The Witcher will have Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil) as the producer, and she had his to say about Cavill’s involvement:

He was my first meeting. I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the [Witcher] family.

A month ago, Cavill had said that he was interested in playing the role of Geralt in the show, and if you put two and two together, that could be him publicly expressing his hopes that he passed the audition process.

The Witcher will be based on a series of books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski and will run for eight episodes for its first season. Probably the most popular adaptation of the franchise is the game The Witcher III by CD Projekt Red, and a lot of fans are hoping that this show will follow on the game’s aesthetics.

https://youtu.be/ehjJ614QfeM

If anything, this could be Netflix’s version of Game of Thrones; fantasy, action, and what I’m guessing is a decent amount of nudity.

No release date has been announced for Netflix’s The Witcher.
