HBO has yet to reveal any official details for their Game of Thrones prequel series, but a lot are hoping that we’ll get some new info come SDCC 2019 later this month. What’s interesting is, series creator George R.R. Martin has shared some new details for the upcoming spinoff.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Martin pretty much confirms that the series takes place way in the past, and Westeros is still split up into a hundred kingdoms. Despite that though, we’re still going to see an appearance from the MVP house of the original show, House Stark.

Martin says, the Starks will definitely be a presence, and it’s likely we could see the construction of Bran the Builder’s magical Wall. Martin also confirms, “Obviously the White Walkers are here — or as they’re called in my books, The Others — and that will be an aspect of it… There are things like direwolves and mammoths.”

https://youtu.be/76X_Eioiiwc

Besides the Starks, we’ll also be going to a familiar place called Casterly Rock, but instead of the Lannisters, the castle is still being run by the original family, the Casterlys. Martin says, “The Lannisters aren’t there yet, but Casterly Rock is certainly there; it’s like the Rock of Gibraltar… It’s actually occupied by the Casterlys — for whom it’s still named after in the time of Game of Thrones.”

In the lore it’s said that the Lannisters had descended from a trickster called Lann the Clever, but there are different versions of the story on how he earned the castle. Hopefully with this prequel, we get the true story.

https://youtu.be/UTithmKwJ7o

With a lot of people disappointed with how Game of Thrones turned out, I’m starting to be hopeful that this spinoff will focus more on the more human conflicts that made the show as great as it was. I don’t any of the over-the-top CGI to get hooked. I’d trade a hundred Battle of Winterfells for a handful of scenes of Tywin Lannister scolding people.

No release date has been set for the Game of Thrones spinoff, but hopefully we can get in next year or in 2021.
