With Majors getting fired by Marvel last year, rumors have been going around on the studio replacing or scrapping the Kang concept entirely. Good news for Kang fans though, it looks like the MCU is going to set out to finish what they started—without Majors’ involvement.

According to insider Daniel RPK (via @HollywoodHandle), Kang is still expected to be the main villain of the next two Avengers films. What’s more, Marvel is also expected to add one more villain to the mix alongside Kang—possibly the MCU’s version of Doctor Doom.

We don’t have any solid news on who is going to take over the Kang role, but some names that have been making the press rounds include Colman Domingo (Transformers: Rise of the Beast, Euphoria) and John David Washington (TENET). Some have even been calling for Chukwudi Iwuji to take on the role; with the canon explanation that his High Evolutionary from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be a Kang variant.

I’ll admit, it’s kind of a bummer that we won’t be able to see Majors’ finished version of Kang’s arc, but besides the Quantumania Kang, his alternate versions of the character were considered to be a bit mid-tier when it comes to portrayal. Some even like to tease He Who Remains from Loki kind of feels like an odd theater kid performance.

We don’t know who the next Kang is going to be, but I’m happy Marvel isn’t throwing out what they’ve been building up to since 2020.

The Kang Dynasty Rises in New Trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania https://www.geekfeed.com/new-trailer-for-ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania/ Tue, 10 Jan 2023 09:52:56 +0000 https://www.geekfeed.com/?p=72845 February will see the start of Marvel Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and we have a new trailer that teases the next big Avengers villain, Kang the Conqueror.

Watch the trailer for Quantumania here:

While the first previews for Quantumania have only teased the potential of Jonathan Majors’ Kang, we see him going all out with his powers in this trailer, and we also get a good idea of the stakes in which Scott Lang is agreeing to work with him.

Though Doctor Strange is kind of the property that owns the kooky visuals in the MCU, the trailer does have some quantum insanity going on with Scott Lang multiplying into thousands of copies, enough to make an Ant-Man tower made of Ant-Men. We don’t know what other kind of visuals we can expect, but after the underwhelming ‘Multiverse of Madness’, I hope that Ant-Man leans in on the title of ‘Quantumania’.

Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that though he doesn’t talk, we also get a look at MODOK a.k.a. Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). I’m admittedly bummed Jim Carrey didn’t get the part, but I hope that Marvel keeps MODOK around to cause some chaos in the future.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Ant-Man and the Wasp find themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that pushes them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.

Catch Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania when it releases in theaters on Feb. 17.
