In every episode, we learn about the pitfalls of technology, so it shouldn't be a surprise in a year that's being lead by females that Black Mirror would offer viewers a dose of women heroes before closing out 2017.
Now you may be saying "Black Mirror has no heroes" and we'd have to agree after all it's known for building on the extreme's and annihilating any hopes you have for a happy ending. And the fact is in all its seasons Black Mirror only offered one happy ending with its story "San Junipero", which one the show an Emmy. Now we're not going to spoil any of the season 4 episodes for you, but just understand that just because females are the heroes it doesn't mean the endings on this series are happy by any means. Whether they are survivors in the traditional sense or not, they each reach a moment in their story where they are challenged to reclaim their power, stand up to some level of tyranny and fight to write their own ending.

It's also no surprise that this season features females as Brooker wrote the episodes between July 2016 through February, long before all #MeToo Campaign started, but well into the election cycle in the US which brought a lot of issues concerning women to reality.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter Annabel Jones said:

"Charlie and I don’t tend to think about the stories that way. Sometimes, it just comes out," Jones tells THR. "But it's great — great! — that they’re all strong female protagonists. I think what’s lovely about the show is that it's not a strident statement. It’s more: Why not? We don’t even think about it from a gender perspective and I hope that’s progress. It’s more that we explore the best story and the best way to tell it."

It's nice to know that Black Mirror relies on its storytelling capabilities and doesn't necessarily strive to do these things purposely, but instead lets them happen naturally.
