Spinning Bird Kick!: Street Fighter Movie Casts Chun-Li

The Street Fighter cast continues to grow. After announcements for legacy characters like Ryu, Ken, and Blanka, it looks like the movie has found someone to play one of the main female heroines of the franchise.

According to Deadline, the movie has cast Callina Liang (Presence, Foundation) as Chinese martial artist Chun-Li. No details have been revealed about the role yet, but Liang joins a stacked cast that already includes the likes of Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and possibly Walton Goggins.

Oddly enough, Chun-Li was the center of the last theatrically released Street Fighter movie, The Legend of Chun-Li where she was played by Kristen Kreuk (Smallville). Before that, she was played by Ming-na Wen in the famously campy Street Fighter that came out back in the 90s.

Liang doesn’t have much credits yet when it comes to action roles, but a lot of fans already agree that they’re going to have to put her in an extensive training regiment if she’s going to be sporting Chun-Li’s infamous thighs on the big screen. We know that heroes like Cammy are known for their ass,  but having a skinny legs Chun-Li is sure to spark a fandom-wide outrage.

So far, Liang is the only female cast member confirmed for the film, but hopefully the movie also has room for favorites like Cammy, Juri, Sakura, or Elena.

For now, no specific release date has been set for the Street Fighter movie, but hopefully it comes out before 2027.
