Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is no stranger to odd casting choices. The upcoming sequel features a Sly Stallone cameo and Kurt Russell playing a talking planet. Director James Gunn has also shown his wide music taste through the film’s record breaking soundtrack. Could all of that lead to a role for Steven Tyler? The Aerosmith singer has made no secret of his desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The singer talked to People about his role in the upcoming horror flick Happy Birthday. Tyler then went on to describe his dream acting role. After his horror turn, he’s now eyeing up a role in a superhero film. While expressing an interest in Guardians, he publicly called out James Gunn:
I hope [audiences] enjoy [Happy Birthday]. I know I did! It made me want to do more movies for sure, I would do anything to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 – are you listening James Gunn?
While Tyler is a strange fit for the MCU, we can really see this happening. Of course, any potential role would be a long way off. Marvel is yet to announce any plans for a sequel to Guardians Vol.2. It’s very likely to happen, given how successful the original was, both critically and commercially. The only issue is that Gunn has cast some doubt over taking on a third film in the franchise. Tyler may need to repeat his plea to a brand new director.
It won’t be too long until we get a glimpse at the soundtrack for the 2017 sequel. Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is a pretty eclectic mix of tunes, Aerosmith could very well sneak into a future soundtrack. Guardians 2 is likely to have reshoots quite soon, so Tyler could potentially sneak into some additional footage?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theatres on April 28, 2017 in the UK and May 5 in the US.
