After playing Oliver Queen AKA the Green Arrow for four seasons in Arrow and now other masked vigilante Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, it seems Stephen Amell has had his fill of superheroes – now he would like to try his hand at playing a supervillain instead.
In an interview with CinePop, Amell was asked what superhero he would like to portray in a film. Here’s the actor’s reply:
“I always get this question. I think all the superheroes are taken now. I’ll play The Riddler, okay? It’s a villain, but I like The Riddler.”
This isn’t actually the first time Amell has expressed an interest in playing the green-suited puzzler. At the San Diego Comic Con back in 2014, he was also asked what villain he would like to play. On that occasion he said:
“The Riddler. I think I actually said that to Geoff Johns at like 2 o’clock in the morning Saturday. ‘Hey, Geoff, I want to play the Riddler.’ That actually happened… The Riddler, I mean that’s an awesome villain, and it hasn’t been in the modern…well, I guess modern, post-turn-of-the-century versions of Batman. So that would be cool.”
This casting might seem unlikely at first but, actually, his chances could be high. Jesse Eisenberg was initially cast as Edward Nygma in Batman V Superman before the character was cut out the film and Eisenberg was given Lex Luthor instead. No doubt Riddler will be turning up in future Batman movies, though, so they will need to cast the character soon. And speaking to the new head of DC movies was a clever move by Amell to get his foot in the door.
Watch the interview below. The question in, er, question occurs at about the 1:40 mark.
