Lucasfilm is entering into live-action territory with Jon Favreau’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian, and a new series has been announced which will bring back a familiar rebel spy – Cassian Andor.

As per StarWars.com, Disney CEO Bob Iger had just announced that a live-action series in currently in development centered on Rogue One’s Cassian Andor. Diego Luna is set to reprise the role, and he had this to say about coming back to Star Wars:

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me… I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

Seeing that Cassian died at the end of Rogue One (along with everyone else), this series will more likely explore his earlier days in the Rebellion. I have to wonder though, with a movie character appearing in the series, what are the odds that we see a return of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo in this show? How about Lando? Personally, I’d prefer they he came back in a movie.

Fingers crossed K-2SO will be making a comeback.

Here’s the official description for the show:

The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.

No release date has been set for this series, but the show is said to begin production sometime next year and will debut in Disney’s streaming service, Disney+.
