Star Wars The Last Jedi Novelization Seemingly Confirms ‘Reylo’

After the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, multiple fans have been arguing online about the existence of a romantic tension between Rey and Kylo Ren, even dubbing the pairing ‘Reylo’. Though the movie comes out as ambiguous, the novelization seems to confirm that Kylo does in fact, have strong feelings for Rey.

Reddit user OmNomAnor has been posting some tidbits from the still unreleased novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and he provides this bit of information:

Just before the elevator door opens Rey realizes Kylo’s churning emotions are not only about himself but also about her.

Of course, we should still take this news as a rumor for now, but I can imagine the scene being described in the book already. With lines like,”You’re nobody, but not to me,” coming from Kylo Ren, it’s obvious that he cares for her to some degree.

Though romance could be everyone’s gut reaction to the line, I think it’s more of a platonic love that Kylo is expressing. Some think that Kylo had grown up to be neglected by his parents, and the abandonment is probably something he empathizes with Rey as well. To him, Rey could be someone who understands what it is to not have a family, and he could very well fit into that role.

Everyone is already predicting that Kylo will die in Star Wars Episode IX, but I hope that J.J. Abrams finds a way to be like Rian Johnson and divert all expectations. Though a pairing between the Kylo and Rey seems like a fandom dream-come-true, I think it would end up being pretty unnatural when it comes to character development. Hopefully, Episode IX provides us with a fitting end for both characters.
