Star Wars Force Awakens Concept Art has Rey Living Somewhere More Dangerous

With the blockbusters like Star Wars, there’s always some amazing concept art that never makes it to the film, and the neat thing about the internet is, some of the artists can share this unused work for us to see. Lucasfilm executive creative director Doug Chiang shares this cool concept of Rey’s broken down AT-AT home before we got the final product in the film.

As you can see here, Rey still lives in an AT-AT, but it’s one that’s stuck hanging inside a Super Star Destroyer. While I love how much more outlandish the location is, I think the production decided to stick to the AT-AT on the ground because it would allow for the set to actually be built. With TFA putting a priority on practical effects, I think this choice would have had to rely too much on CG.

For now, nobody knows what to expect with Star Wars Episode IX. The beauty of The Last Jedi was it was able to subvert all expectations by pulling up the rug from underneath everyone. With Snoke gone and Kylo the bad guy, almost all parallel’s from the previous film have been severed, and we’re strapped in for an all-new adventure.

Let’s hope all this talk of IX being some sort of ‘course correction’ is false since I don’t need anyone to explain Snoke’s backstory or reveal that Rey is of a secret lineage. Give us something new, J.J. Abrams!

Star Wars Episode IX comes out Dec. 20, 2019.
