Star Wars Episode IX Official Title Could Be Revealed In January

Star Wars Episode IX is set to come out later this year, but Lucasfilm remains pretty tight-lipped about the movie. We don’t have a title as of now, but rumor has it that it could be revealed sometime soon—maybe even later this month.

As speculated by The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm could reveal the title with the same pattern they did with The Last Jedi reveal. TLJ’s title was revealed Jan. 23, 2017, with the film coming out in December of that year. It’s likely that they’ll do the same with Episode IX. Maybe this time they could even release it with some clips of the film instead of just dropping the poster.

Episode IX is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Star Wars material for 2019. Disney+ will be giving us Jon Favreau’s live-action Star Wars: The Mandalorian series plus the continuation of The Clone Wars. We also have the theme park, Galaxy’s Edge opening and Star Wars Celebration later this year as well.

Despite all the upcoming material though, fans continue to put Episode IX at the top of their most anticipated list. Disney had successfully launched the sequel trilogy with The Force Awakens, and Rian Johnson did some amazing work by subverting the Star Wars formula with The Last Jedi. Let’s hope J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio and this franchise with a bang come December.

Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20.
