Sonic the Hedgehog: Theater Standee Confirms Sonic’s Redesign

A few weeks ago, we got some leaked images of the alleged redesign of Sonic for the Sonic the Hedgehog film, and while nothing official has been released online, a theater standee has been spotted giving us Sonic’s new (and definitely improved) look.

Check it out:

When the first trailer came out back in April, the reception was so bad that Paramount Pictures was forced to delay the film in order to give artists a chance to redesign the character. While the first look of the character was oddly anthropomorphic, this new look for Sonic has been redesigned to lean more heavily on his cartoon look, complete with the chubbier body, and cartoon gloves. Put that next to Jim Carrey’s Robotnik, and we could be looking at a new box office franchise for kids.

Hopefully when they do an official reveal trailer, the PR department will also think of some appropriate music. Besides Sonic’s initial designs, everyone was scratching their heads on why a trailer for a kids’ movie has Gangster’s Paradise on it.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
