It looks like HBO Max really is going all out for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. After reports of the returning cast members and Jared Leto’s Joker, we have one more Batman villain set to make a return in the film – Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke.
According to Collider, Joe Manganiello is said to be reprising the role of Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Unlike Leto’s part, we had already seen Manganiello in costume in the post-credits scene for Justice League. We don’t have any idea how Snyder plans to use Deathstroke for the film, but I have a guess that it will probably have something to do with the formation of the Legion of Doom—something I also speculate that Joker will be part of.
Besides Manganiello, other stars confirmed for a comeback are Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, and Amber Heard. It was also speculated that Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot would be making a return for reshoots, but Gadot has not said anything, and Cavill has debunked the reports.
While I would definitely love to see the continuation of Snyder’s original plans for the DCEU, some say that this expansion will unofficially close the book on this iteration of the universe. Moving forward, some characters like Deathstroke will still be in the timeline, but it will have nothing to do with Snyder’s original plans to have the League clash with Darkseid. Then again, who knows? A lot of people didn’t think the Snyder Cut would ever happen, and here we are now, waiting for its official release.
“Fuelled by his restored faith in humanity, and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly-awakened enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes in Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash, it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes to HBO Max sometime in 2021.
