Stellan Skarsgård Suffered a Stroke Around the Time of Shooting Andor

Stellan Skarsgård is beloved by Star Wars fans as the revolutionary Luthen Rael in Andor, and while fans don’t know where Luthen is going for the second season, Skarsgård himself has revealed an interesting revelation about his work on the first season.

Talking to Moovy TV, he revealed that he had actually suffered a stroke before working on Andor, and this led to him needed a prompter when he was working on the show. “I’ve always had problems remembering lines,” said Skarsgård, “Especially now since I had a stroke a couple of years ago, so I have them in my ear by prompter.”

Even if that is the case, a lot of fans still think that Luthen is definitely one of the best things to come out of the series. One particular monologue is often celebrated by fans that encapsulates Luthen’s mission and his sacrifice for the Rebellion:

“I was very scared to do that monologue because it was so good. I didn’t want to f*ck it up, and it took a couple of takes.”

It’s not clear exactly when Skarsgård got the stroke, but what is clear is that fans and critics absolutely love Luthen as a character, and he adds that special maturity to Star Wars that the franchise has been lacking with its black and white characters.

With this being the last season of the series, it’s possible that Luthen will die at some point, but I’m hopeful that his character gets a proper sendoff what with being the secret architect of the Rebel Alliance.

The second season of Andor is now streaming on Disney+.
