It’s been five years since Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows – the second movie to star Robert Downey, Jr. as the famous detective – was released. As such, you would be forgiven for thinking the series has been hung out to dry. However, things now look set to be finally moving forward on the threequel, at least according to Downey himself.
In an interview with Shortlist, Downey gave some very positive comments about the chances of another Holmes film appearing. Here’s what he had to say:
“We’re talking about it right now. NOW. I can’t wait… I know Guy Ritchie loves me as much as I love him – and he damn well should. When we’re making those Sherlock movies it is off the hook. We’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m excited about it.”
Still, don’t start celebrating yet, Sherlock Holmes fans. Downey is obviously a very busy boy these days, what with being Iron Man and everything, so his free time to make this could disappear. We will have to wait and see whether this “attempt” to make a third movie comes off.
Previously, Downey’s co-star Jude Law expressed interest in doing Sherlock Holmes 3. He revealed that he himself had pitched a potential plot for the movie, involving Holmes and Watson travelling to the future. Apparently Ritchie hated it, so don’t expect this storyline to make it to screen – even if the movie is eventually made.
