Captain Marvel is set to come out in a few weeks, but has recently caught a snag with some toxic people giving it a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes even before it comes out. A huge chunk of the haters come from the DC fanbase saying that Shazam! is the original Captain Marvel, but now Zachary Levi has come out to ask fans to stop pitting the films against each other.
This is an excerpt from his video post:
Here’s @ZacharyLevi asking fans to stop piting #CaptainMarvel and #Shazam against each other, because IT ISN’T HELPING ANYONE. He’s also calling out the fake reviews and fabricated/defamatory posts about @brielarson. —It’s time for those people to really listen. pic.twitter.com/SzL0iowj5T

Though I think the DC vs. Marvel debate is always an inevitable discussion, the lengths that some fans will go through to ‘fight for what they love’ is downright ridiculous. It’s great that Levi actually stood up and said something before this escalated into a Star Wars-type situation.
Just in case you didn’t know, the Star Wars fandom has some members that are overtly toxic that they eventually bullied Kelly Marie Tran and Daisy Ridley out of social media. Not to mention they pushed Jar Jar actor Ahmed Best to the brink of suicide.
Hopefully it’s not too late when it comes to Marvel vs. DC. Like Levi said, you don’t really have to be for either side, and it’s perfectly fine to like both. It’s not fine, however, to actively ruin a movie’s chances of success by giving it terrible reviews online even before it comes out.
Catch Captain Marvel in theaters March 8. Shazam! comes out April 5.
