With Wonder Woman proving to be a huge success last year, Marvel is more confident than ever to push forward with their female-led superhero movie. Last week we got our first glimpse of Brie Larson on the set of Captain Marvel, and now a set video has come out with Carol Danvers manhandling some guy on the streets.

Judging by the fact that Danvers is holding a newspaper in the shot, I have a feeling that this is her character coming back from space and discovering that she’s in the 90s. Like Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel is confirmed to be a period piece, and that particular period will be in the 90s.
Seeing that Captain Marvel’s origins are pretty close to that of the Hal Jordan Green Lantern, screenwriter Nicole Perlman has said that she wants to avoid any comparisons with the two heroes; suggesting that we would get a different origin for Danvers this time around. My personal guess is that she’s either a pilot from the past/present who runs into alien tech and is transported to the 90s loop an alien who finds herself on Earth and assumes the identity of Carol Danvers.
Hopefully, Marvel comes up with something interesting.
With Wonder Woman setting an example for little girls everywhere, a lot of people are waiting for the MCU’s version of a superheroine. I mean, Black Widow is already pretty cool, but let’s face it, her “powers” are basically just being good at kicking things.
Captain Marvel hits theaters March 9, 2019.
