One of the best characters to come out of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera. In the film, we see him as a battle-hardened rogue rebel general with an army of his own rebels. This is the first time that Saw has featured in a big screen Star Wars movie. However, the general has played a part in Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series. As well as this, according to Collider, we could be seeing more of Saw Gerrera on the silver screen. President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy has hinted that the general could be making future appearances in Star Wars films.
Here’s what she had to say:
“With Saw Gerrera, we just became very intrigued with him as a character [from The Clone Wars] and how he fits inside this story….To be honest, we originally thought we were going to develop Saw into something much larger, but we couldn’t accommodate it. So he is not in the movie as much as we would like to have him in the movie, which creates the opportunity to explore his character even further in our future development.”
And Forest Whitaker, aka Saw Gerrera, had this response via Collider:
“I’m curious about what else they’re about to do,” Whitaker responded. “Because they seem to really like the character, which is great!”
As Collider point out, future development could mean his role in the up and coming Star Wars: Rebels animated series. In Rogue One, Gerrera has a backstory that we want to know more about. To not have him feature in any of the future prequel films would be a shame.
In conclusion, as a rebel general Gerrera has met a lot of well-known Star Wars characters. So the character would fit easily into the series of young Han Solo films planned. In addition, he would also tie in well with the Boba Fett film we could be seeing in the future.
