Sam Neill will forever be the face of the original Jurassic Park films, and it looks like he’s going to be wrangling some more ancient creatures in his next film.
According to Empire, Neill has joined the cast of the next Godzilla x Kong movie set in Legendary’s Monsterverse. No details have been revealed as to who he could be playing, but we do know that he joins a cast which includes the likes of Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthe Modine, and Alycia Debnam-Carey. Dan Stevens will also be back as the kaiju specialist Trapper Beasley.
The last movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire had Godzilla and Kong going up against another evil giant monkey known as the Skar King. It also saw the revival of Mothra and Kong taking his place as the ruler of the giant monkeys of Hollow Earth.
It’s not clear where the sequel could go, but fans should expect a new batch of human characters as well as some more giant cinematic monsters from around Godzilla’s time. We know we already got Ghidora and Rodan, but I’m still waiting for the giant Kaiju turtle Gamera. At what point are they going to bring in Ultraman or the Megazord from Power Rangers?
I’ll admit, I thought that this film franchise would be done by Godzilla vs. Kong, but it looks like these films have become a cash cow for Legendary and could keep going for a few more years. It’s kind of silly that they keep developing the human characters though, but I guess someone has to tell the story instead of the titans just roaring at each other.
No release date has been set for the next Monsterverse movie, but it’s expected to hit theaters 2027.
