We may not have had any updates on Deadpool 3 yet, but Ryan Reynolds is going to be doing some action in the upcoming film Free Guy. Just in, 20th Century Fox has dropped a whole new trailer, and it’s absolutely bonkers.

Check it out:

Here’s the official description:

In Twentieth Century Fox’s epic adventure-comedy “Free Guy,” a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.

From the get-go you can see a lot of influence from some real-life video games. The rampant crime is reminiscent to that of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and the random dancing plus the drop from the sky is clearly a Fortnite reference.

This is also not from a video game, but the clip of Reynolds getting hit by two cars is the same as the scene where Brad Pitt gets run over in Meet Joe Black:

If anything, the movie kind of feels like The Truman Show meets Wreck-It Ralph. I don’t know what Taika Waititi’s villain is up to in the film, but it would be fun to see how he deals with Reynolds’ Guy.

While the game is based on some adult material, it ultimately seems like a child-friendly film. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Shawn Levy who’s brought us things like Stranger Things and Night at the Museum.

Catch Free Guy when it comes out July 3, 2020.
