There is no denying how the Avengers: Infinity War swept the entire world. The movie hit cinemas on April 27, 2018 across the United States. Now, the film’s earned its budget fourfold. Currently, it is the fifth highest grossing film of all time – earning $1.6 billion on a budget of $400 million. Aside from being a box office success, critics and audiences were also pleased with the outcome of the highly anticipated Marvel Avengers adaptation.

However, it isn’t surprising that fans of the franchise are now looking towards 2019 for the sequel. There isn’t that much information about the film – not even a whiff of its title. However, The Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe – directors of the Avengers movies, have spoken about working on the franchise. They also revealed details about the ending of Infinity War.

In an interview with UpRoxx following the release of their film, Anthony and Joe Russo explained how much of a whirlwind being involved in a Marvel movie has been.

According to Anthony, they have yet to absorb the immensity of Infinity Wars. Apparently, they  filmed the movies back to back and now they are on an international tour. They barely got the chance to breathe and take it all in:

“You know what, it’s a tour. We haven’t had any time to process any of this. We literally shot from January to January. We got back to L.A. and we are racing to finish the edit on Infinity War. And it’s as significant of a VFX job in history. We handed it in on April 7th, got in a car and started an international press tour that we are still on.”

For those who have seen the movie, most of the speculation lies with the planet Thanos ended up in at the very end of Avengers: Infinity Wars. The Russo Brothers were coy about explaining where the mad titan is. However, it seems like fans are putting too much thought into the ending. According to the brothers, it is simply where Thanos goes

“He’s like a holy warrior. Once he puts his armor down in that movie he becomes like a holy warrior and this is his resting place for him. He says in the film he’s just going to sit and watch the sunrise.”

Anthony further explains that Thanos is a character with one goal. In the movie, all the things he did was for that goal. Now that he has accomplished it, he can revel in his victory:

“Look, if you look at Thanos throughout the movie, what’s noble about the character is it’s not about ego for him. He believes that creatures and beings are suffering because of this. So he believes the road for the right way to peace and balance is through eradicating half of all life. And he believes that will bring balance and new life and peacefulness and joy to people – and he dedicates himself to that mission. His choices are remarkably focused on that. He’s not killing people he doesn’t need to kill. He only kills people in furtherance of that goal.”

The Untitled Avengers sequel makes its way to cinemas on May 3, 2019.
