Until The Batman comes out in theaters, fans will be wondering where the movie lies in the DCEU continuity. So far we know that all the characters in the show have been recast, and it looks like this timeline will have its own Clown Prince of Crime as well. Rumor has it that The Batman is getting its own Joker.
According to insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), director Matt Reeves is planning to introduce his own kind of Joker down the line. This Joker is set to be referenced at some point in the 2021 movie, and it set to take the main stage in the second and possibly third film. For now, there is yet to be any casting for the role.
While I thought that Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker would have been a great match, a lot of people admit that that version of the character can’t possibly go toe-to-toe with Batman. Then again, maybe they can follow the multiple Joker arc that took place in the comics.
If anything, I’m kind of hopeful that Reeves keeps emphasizing that his Batman films are in its own continuity. With the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League next year, there are a lot of hopes that the original DCEU plans would somehow move forward. Even Suicide Squad David Ayer is pushing for the release of the original version of his film which is said to contain the ‘true’ Joker performance by Jared Leto.
For now all, we can really do is wait and see what happens. Catch The Batman in theaters Oct. 1, 2021.
