After Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Lucasfilm tried its hand with fantasy adventures with the movie Willow starring Warwick Davis. As it turns out, there have been discussions for a sequel.

Solo: A Star Wars Story director Ron Howard just recently confirmed the reports.

Talking to ComicBook, Howard said:

“I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a little talk of Willow… We wouldn’t call it Willow 2, I think it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.”

I guess it’s safe to say that he’d be free to reprise his role as Willow Ufgood in a sequel. After all,  Davis is still pretty much involved with every upcoming Star Wars movie. Why do I also have a feeling that Lucasfilm might also bring Peter Dinklage in?

It’s also interesting that Howard thought of Willow when Lucasfilm asked him to take over Solo.

The director explains:

“I thought about that movie a lot as I was working on Solo because there are certain scene— especially around some of the Madmartigan stuff—was reminiscent of a character with that kind of swagger and bravado. And also some of the humor around some of the action in Willow was something I inspired to get into Solo.”

I can only think that Howard was talking about either Han or Lando when it came to those Madmartigan comparisons. Maybe we should just wait for the film to come out to make sure.

Coming out in 1988, Willow is already a 30-year-old movie. Sure, the film didn’t quite make the same cultural impact that Star Wars did. However, Willow remains to be a cult classic that people come back to from time to time.

No release date has been set for the Willow sequel, but you can catch Howard’s Solo: A Star Wars Story in theaters May 25.
