Once Suicide Squad arrives at the end of this week, the next really big movie to be released will be December’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We’ve already got our first look at the movie – which will kick off the Star Wars Anthology series – back in April, but expect the publicity and marketing around the film to ramp up considerably the closer we get to the film’s release date. In anticipation of that, Disney and Lucasfilm have just revealed a new TV spot (via MovieManiacsDE). Have a watch of it below.
Fans who have rewatched the first trailer endlessly will recognise that this much shorter TV spot doesn’t really contain any new material. There’s Star Wars’ latest female hero, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, introducing herself with “this is a rebellion, isn’t it? I rebel.” The tense music. The AT-ATs. Glimpses of cast members like Forest Whitaker, Diego Luna and Riz Ahmed. There is a new tagline, though, which will mean something to fans: “Hope begins with rebellion.” This is of course referencing the fact that Rogue One is set before the original Star Wars movie – or, if you’d prefer, Episode IV: A New Hope.
The film’s synopsis is as follows:
“Following the foundation of the Galactic Empire, a wayward band of Rebel fighters comes together to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the plans for the Death Star before it can be used to enforce the Emperor’s rule.”
Rogue One: A Star Wars story is directed by Gareth Edwards. As well as those mentioned above, it will feature an ensemble cast including Ben Mendelsohn, Mads Mikkelsen, Jiang Wen, Alan Tudyk and Donnie Yen. Oh, and James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader, of course. It arrives in this galaxy on December 16th.
