Season 4 of Arrow received some harsh feedback from fans after a less than stellar finale. It seems like the show is aiming to put that right in Season 5. We’ve already heard that they’re returning to their roots, and looking for a threatening new villain. The latest big news for the new season is the casting of a brand new vigilante, who is set to team up with the Green Arrow. Spoilers for Season 4 follow.
EW is reporting that Rick Gonzalez has been added to the cast for the fifth season. He’s said to be playing Jack Wheeler/Wild Dog, a former Marine turned vigilante. The vigilante element made the show really interesting, but the focus has shifted from that of late. With immortal and magical big bads heading to Star City, the sub-plot of vigilante justice has been sidelined. Hopefully this hints at change ahead for the new season.
Following the end of Season 4, Oliver Queen is light on allies. He saw his sister, Thea, and best friend John Diggle leave after their last battle with Damien Darhk, so the Green Arrow is a lone crime fighter once again. Clearly that’s not going to be the case for long, as Wild Dog is reported to be appearing in the opening episode of the fifth season. So fans won’t have long to wait until they see him on screen.
The big question is over Wild Dog’s costume. He typically wears a football jersey with a red dog and a hockey mask, but will his attire change for TV? Maybe Stephen Amell will be lending out some of his props from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows?
The Mr. Robot actor is a strong addition for The CW’s DC universe. As their roster of superheroes expands, they seem to be adding more and more quality actors in to the mix. All they need now is to deliver on their promise of a threatening villain. Get that right, and Arrow could be on course to return to the heights of seasons 1 and 2.
