Project Hail Mary: Ryan Gosling Stars in Next Movie from the Writer of The Martian

Andy Weir is best known for being the author of The Martian, and the film was praised for being completely accurate when it comes to the premise of someone trying to survive in Mars. Now his other book, Project Hail Mary is getting an adaptation, and we just got our first trailer starring Ryan Gosling.

Check this out:

Here’s the logline:

11.9 Light-years from home.

6th grade science teacher.

1 chance to save us all.

Besides Gosling, one big hook with this movie is that it’s being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller; who are going out of their superhero/comedy box for a sci-fi blockbuster. Funnily enough, Lord and Miller kind of lost their sci-fi card when they were fired from the Han Solo movie; and now they’re working with Gosling, who is set to star in his own Star Wars movie directed by Shawn Levy.

Anyone whose read the book Project Hail Mary can’t help but gush about it, and the trailer has a lot of them excited. Looking at it with fresh eyes though, it does kind of look like the same premise as The Martian, with the main character spending a huge time alone in space; and we’ll have to watch him survive by himself—also video diaries look like they’re going to be a regular part of the movie.

Hopefully we’ll get to see more of the movie soon. Personally, I think it looks fantastic; and it does look like the film is also going to delving into all the logistical complexities of transporting just one person lightyears away.

Watch out for Project Hail Mary when it comes to cinemas on March 20, 2026.
