So far in the Planet of the Apes saga, we’ve seen the leader of the free apes, Caesar, grow rapidly. We first see him as a baby, developing increased intelligence as a side effect to testing. Rescued by James Franco’s character, Caesar then leads and builds a new ape society in a dystopic future. However, with desperate humans fighting the apes for survival, Caesar’s story gets harder. Here’s the official synopsis, via Trailer Track:
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
After the events of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the third film in the series will take us on a much darker path. With the teasers we’ve seen so far, War of the Planet of the Apes looks to be epic when it premieres on July 14th. However, we may not have long to wait to get another glimpse. Trailer Track are reporting that the final trailer for the movie could be playing before Alien: Covenant. You can check out the CinemaCon trailer, below.
The first two Planet of the Apes movies have done well at the box office. Yet, Twentieth Century Fox will want to capitalise on Covenant‘s audience. With a massive fanbase, the Alien series will pull in scores of people. In addition to this, the two share the sci-fi genre.
For many of us, we get just as excited about the trailers as we do the movie itself. This is no different with Planet of the Apes. With a strong plot that questions identity and acceptance, the movies make a refreshing change. We’ll definitely be on the look-out when we see Alien: Covenant.
