With Star Wars and Marvel doing so well in the box office, it has been expected that shows like The Mandalorian and WandaVision on Disney+ would have the same level of quality. What’s interesting is, one other upcoming Disney+ property is aiming to get on the level of the mentioned shows.
As per an update by Rick Riordan on his official website, the goal is to make the reboot for Percy Jackson and The Olympians ‘stand toe-to-toe with Disney+ hits like WandaVision and The Mandalorian,” quality-wise. We don’t have any concept art or casting news yet, but Riordan does confirm that their process has been ‘relatively easy’ when it comes to making this show.
I guess it’s also worth noting that though a lot of fans have been convinced that Percy Jackson is already pushing forward with Disney, Riordan does say that the series doesn’t have the ‘official green light’ as of now. The pilot script has been making the rounds to the ‘highest levels of Disney execs’ and ‘everybody likes it,’ so that should bring some relief to fans of the franchise.
While Percy Jackson may have been the Harry Potter franchise for Gen-Z, the movies kind of crashed and burned at the box office. Hopefully with Riordan now more creatively involved and Disney taking over, we can have something that captures the essence of what made the books so beloved in the first place.
No release date has been announced for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but fans should watch out for it on Disney+.
