A lot of people are excited for the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max next year, and though it was a huge victory for the fans, it looks like it’s also a win for the directors behind the DC films with Patty Jenkins giving new information about the project.

Talking to CinemaBlend, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins reveals that the DC directors didn’t like Whedon’s Justice League either, and it may as well not be canon. She says:

“The Justice League? … No, I think that all of us DC directors tossed that out just as much as the fans did. But also, I felt that that version contradicted my first movie in many ways, and this current movie, which I was already in production on. So then, what are you going to do? I was like… you would have to play ball in both directions in order for that to work. The only thing I have done, and have always tried to do, is — I knew, when Zack was doing Justice League, where she sort of ends up. So I always tried… like, I didn’t change her suit, because I never want to… I don’t want to contradict his films, you know? But yet, I have to have my own films, and he’s been very supportive of that. And so, I think that that Justice League was kind of an outlier. They were trying to turn one thing into, kind of, another. And so then it becomes, ‘I don’t recognize half of these characters. I’m not sure what’s going on.’”

Based on the stories that have come out of the Justice League set recently, it looks like everything had become pretty toxic thanks to WB, and everyone else had nothing but nice things to say about Zack Snyder. If anything, the Snyder Cut getting approved is more than just a win for ‘whiny fanboys’ but really a victory for the people behind the creative process. Being a director herself, it’s very likely that Jenkins would be on Snyder’s side.

So far, the entire box office climate is kind of a mess thanks to COVID-19. Jenkins is finally set to release Wonder Woman 1984 this Christmas, but everyone doesn’t know how it will play out with the new release model. I’m just here crossing my fingers hoping that it all turns out for the best.

Catch Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters and on HBO Max on Dec. 25. Zack Snyder’s Justice League hits HBO Max sometime in 2021.
